Melbourne is a city that can have four seasons in one day! You can wake up to a beautiful sunny morning and by lunch time the clouds can come in creating a cold winter’s afternoon. But all in all Melbourne’s weather is very manageable with great summers to get out and about, beautiful spring days, relaxing autumns and cool crisp winter days where you can curl up around a log fire with a great bottle of wine. From December through to February Melbourne can experience hot summer days that can reach anywhere up to the high 30’s so be sure to pack light clothing and plenty of shorts and t-shirts if you are holidaying here around this time. The summer days make it great for enjoying all that Melbourne has to offer in the way of beautiful beaches, picnic pleasures and plenty of tours and activities for all to enjoy. There is often a cool change come the evenings when the temperature drops just enough so all dining experiences from al fresco to BBQ’s and picnic’s in the park are all very relaxing and comfortable. From the month of March through to May Autumn tends to see very reasonable temperate days with nothing over 25 degrees. If you can't cope with the searing heat of Australian summer, this is a great time to come. Make sure you bring the right clothing for the mild days and sometimes chillier evenings. Nights can drop to a temperature where you will need something warm to throw on, but it still won’t stop you from coming out and see the city by night and enjoying its many spenders and pleasures in life. Winter can see cold windy days where the wind chill can get quite crisp so be sure to pack lots of warm things to stay cosy. The months of June through to August are always the coolest but with the weather for Melbourne being a little cooler there are still plenty of things that you can see and do, no matter what the temperature may be. There is some of Australia’s finest eating and drinking to be had, interesting laneways to explore, cafes and boutiques to admire, art exhibitions and wonderful performing arts to see no matter what time of year it might be. Rainfall for Melbourne usually averages around 600mm annually with October usually being the wettest month of them all. June and July are the coldest months out of the year and January and February, like the rest of Australia, are the hottest months in the year with a very dry heat to contend with. But it doesn’t matter if it is raining, too hot, too cold or just right, there are hundreds of attractions, tours, activities and adventures for everyone to take part in while in Melbourne whatever the weather might be doing! Melbourne is a place of beauty where you can experience misty mornings in the city with a cool calmness about the place, bright summer mornings that just beacon you to come out and play, spring days that bring the parks, gardens and flowers alive and autumn evenings that are great for al fresco dining. No matter what time of year you are planning on visiting Melbourne, the weather will never be a problem no matter what it might be doing. |
